Juniors vs Veterans post-commentary by Peter Sammut Briffa

Juniors vs Veterans Match

The annual friendly chess match between Juniors and Veterans was recently held at Europa House in Valletta. As usual this match enjoyed a great atmosphere, keen battles, exciting finishes and a number of surprises. It also turned out to be a United Nations affair with players from a variety of nationalities. The Juniors were out in strength with players of national team standard. However it was on the lower boards that they actually obtained their best results. As it was, they ran out winners by the score of 7½-5½. The winners for the Juniors were Bartolomej Haberla, Clarence Psaila, Christian Schembri, Christopher Johnson, Matthew Aquilina, Jurgen Grima and Michael Farrugia. The point winners for the veterans were Peter Sammut Briffa, Stefan Beulertz, Nina Aguilar, Ron Sammut and Maxi Adams. Jake Darmanin and Mario Psaila fought out the only draw.

The individual results are as follows. The Veterans were White on the top board, Black on the second etc.
